Below is a list of books and other publications to aid in building your knowledge base and give you insight into how the husbandry practices and understanding of New Caledonian gecko species has grown over time. We are including books with outdated information because there are relatively few published resources available for these geckos and reading outdated material gives the keeper a better understanding of where certain misconceptions or older husbandry practices came from. There are still many areas, both in our knowledge of wild populations and in our keeping of captive specimens, that require further research.

The Herpetofauna of New Caledonia
Aaron M. Bauer and Ross A. Sadlier This is the most comprehensive book pertaining to the biology of thee New Caledonian gecko species and is an excellent base from which to understand the habitats and habits of these geckos. Information contained in this book on captive specimens, such as expected lifespans and incubation times, and species classifications is outdated. This book should be read along with the paper on the revision of the Rhacodactylus genus (found here) to understand how the various species are now classified and how they are related to each other genetically. |
